Poetry

The target of poetry is the soul. The goal is to attract the soul like a flower attracts a butterfly. But sometimes it is a thistle on which the butterfly lands. Who can predict the pattern of a butterfly’s flit? Poetry changes our flit plans, not always predictably.

Second look at the Two Tablets

In the sermon below I made reference to the two tablets of the ten commandments. The first tablet relates man's relationship to God and the second tablet, mans relationship to man. In Matthew 19 the young man comes to Jesus to ask how to do what is good, to attain eternal life. Jesus answered, "'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,' and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'" These are only the commandments of the second tablet, man's relationship to his fellow man. Then Jesus said, "come follow me." In other words Jesus invited him into relationship with God - the essence of the first tablet.
